Boys & Girls Club and NorthNet to Sell Computers and Internet Service |

August 2, 1999, Oshkosh, WI. - The Boys & Girls Club and NorthNet announced a computer and Internet Service joint venture today. Together, they have begun marketing a quality computer complete with software, a reliable 56K modem, free training, and a three-year warranty under the NorthNet name. In addition, NorthNet will include two years of Internet service, all of which will be priced under a thousand dollars. "This is a great concept," says Patrick Guarino, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh. "The Boys & Girls Club teaming up with NorthNet allows each of us to focus on what we do best. NorthNet is a quality, customer service oriented Internet service provider; and, the Boys & Girls Club builds reliable computers through our TechTeen program." "In this era of "free" PC's and Internet service from Texas or South Dakota, the idea is to provide community-minded consumers in the Fox Valley with a high level of local support and service for both the computer and the Internet service at essentially wholesale prices. All of this without any hidden costs," says Frank Tower, Director of NorthNet. The plan was developed by Mr. Guarino as a way to involve more of the kids at the Boys & Girls Club in technology training in order to prepare them for the technological future. At the same time, the sale of these computers will help finance a program begun by Mr. Guarino to provide rebuilt computers for disadvantaged families in Oshkosh. Previously, the Boys & Girls Club have relied solely on old computers donated by area businesses and residents. The Boys & Girls Club and NorthNet will also offer higher-end computers to area businesses and families under the same wholesale pricing program. With the guidance of local volunteer technologists like Andrew Bickley from Block Iron, the Boys & Girls Club expect to demonstrate the quality of their computer products and the importance of hands-on training at the Tech Corner located at the club. The Boys & Girls Club and NorthNet each plan to have a working prototype at their facility for the public to sample. About NorthNet About Boys & Girls Club |
